First of all, if you are one of my wonderful patients and I have directed you to come here, to learn about myofascial release, thank you for committing to this process and taking that important step to getting well and feeling good again. I am confident that this is going to be a positive experience for you, even if there are some bumps in the road along the way.
I often ask my patients to give me one or two words that sum up their experience of treatment with me and I still get surprised by how many times the same recurring themes occur; they feel encouraged and feel their confidence is boosted. That’s not the way one might usually describe a medical treatment, but when it comes to the tedious and exhausting business of living your life whilst enduring the aches, twinges, and physical limitations that most of us experience at some point in our lives, it can be so discouraging and at times things can feel inevitable and even a bit hopeless, especially if pain is longstanding or affects many parts of the body, or if previous treatments haven’t worked.
The myofascial release family of manual therapies are "hands-on,' treatment techniques that involve manipulating the soft tissues, to improve their mobility and shock-absorbing properties. According to my patients it makes your body feel looser and as a result, more comfortable. I have chosen to work this way precisely because treatments are gradual, and gentle and don't involve any vigorous thrusts or clicks or crunches. Most importantly, you remain in full control at all stages of treatment. Nothing sudden or unexpected will happen during your session. However, despite being very gentle, the light and persistent stretching and moving of your tissues disguises how very powerful and effective Myofascial Release can be. It has taken me over twenty years of dedicated practise, study and training to reach a level of expertise in this field that has allowed me to treat some of the most complex and entrenched conditions as well as taking me around the world, lecturing and training physio's and other manual therapy health-care professionals.
Did you know that you can get a course of myofascial release to help with your headaches, or back pain, or frozen shoulder or carpel tunnel syndrome, or tennis elbow? Physiotherapy helps with difficulty getting in and out of chairs and cars or going up and down the stairs. I can help you with your sciatica, or numbness of fingers or toes. Does your neck feel tight, especially when driving or do you have difficulty with your speech or swallowing? Myofascial release can help with that too. If your job involves a lot of speaking, do you always get a husky voice or lose your voice altogether? Physiotherapy can help you speak longer, louder and more clearly, without going hoarse. Do you want to transition into barefoot running but concerned about the possible risks of injury and pain? I have helped people give up the heeled shoes and get their feet feeling comfortable whilst living and running in minimalist footwear. there is so much more I could add but what I'd like to do, most of all is to hear all about your problem, and tell you the way in which I could help you to feel better.
If you are feld up and just want to feel well, give me a ring! If you don't want to talk directly, (and I know that some people find that very intimidating), give me a text. I'll get back to you as soon as I've finished working on that day's patients or at some point in the day if I get a gap between patients. You've nothing to lose!!
